Gray and Green Striped Mitten

Mittens
Yarn: Crystal Palace Yarns Sequoia Col. No. 03 plus scrap yarn for stripe
Needles: size 10 double point needles
Size: men's size large

*Note: Add stripes whenever you want.

Directions:
CO 34 sts. Join, being careful not to twist.
Work K1P1 ribbing for 2"/5cm. Change to stockinette stitch and work set-up round: K 17, pm, m1, pm, K 17.

Lower palm:
K one round even, then work increase round: K to marker, sl marker, m1, k to marker, m1, sl marker, k to end of round.

Continue in stockinette st, working increase round every other round for 4 times more and ending with a plain round. (45 sts)
K to marker, remove marker, place next 11 sts on waste yarn for holding, remove marker, CO 1 st to bridge the gap, K to end of round. (35 sts)
Continue working even in stockinette st until piece measures 7" above ribbing.

Shape top:
Round 1: *K5, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *K4, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: *K3, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: *K2, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 8: Knit.
Round 9: *K1, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 10: K2tog 5 times.

Break yarn and draw through remaining 5 sts. Pull tight and fasten off.

Thumb:
Place 11 held sts back on needles. Rejoin yarn, leaving a tail about 6"/15.2 cm long, and pick up on st in the CO st at palm. (12 sts)
Work in stockinette st for 3"/5.7 cm.
K2tog 6 times.
Break yarn and draw through remaining 6 sts. Pull tight and fasten off.

Use the tail you left between the thumb and the palm to close up any gaps or holes that developed there.

Green and Yellow Striped Hat and Mittens

Yarn: Nashua Crative Focus Chunky in Golden Yellow and Pine
Needles: size 10 double point needles
Size: women's size medium

Gauge: 3 stitches and 4 rows = 1"/2.5 cm

*Note: Add stripes whenever you want.

Directions:
CO 24 sts. Join, being careful not to twist.
Work K1P1 ribbing for 2"/5cm. Change to stockinette stitch and work set-up round: K 12, pm, m1, pm, K 12.

Lower palm:
K one round even, then work increase round: K to marker, sl marker, m1, k to marker, m1, sl marker, k to end of round.

Continue in stockinette st, working increase round every other round for 3 times more and ending with a plain round. (33 sts)
K to marker, remove marker, place next 9 sts on waste yarn for holding, remove marker, CO 1 st to bridge the gap, K to end of round. (25 sts)
Continue working even in stockinette st until piece measures 6"/15.2 cm above ribbing.

Shape top:
Round 1: *K3, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *K2, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: *K1, k2tog, repeat from * 4 times more.
Round 6: K2tog 5 times.

Break yarn and draw through remaining 5 sts. Pull tight and fasten off.

Hat

Size: women's size medium

Gauge: 3 stitches and 4 rows = 1"/2.5 cm

Directions:
CO 60 sts.
Join into circle, being careful not to twist your stitches. Work 5 founds K1P1 ribbing.
Change to stockinette st and knit until piece measures 5"/12.7 cm above ribbing.

Shape top:
Set up round: *K 12, pm, repeat from * to end of round.
Decrease round: *K to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, sl marker, repeat from * to end of round. Continue, working decrease round every round until 10 sts. remain.
Break yarn and draw through remaining 10 sts.
Pull tight and fasten off.
